Holy Saturday Blessings! Easter Sunday is always held on the Sunday following the ecclesiastical Paschal Full Moon, which is calculated using the Metonic cycle to occur 14 days after the Church’s fixed date of the Spring Equinox on 21 March.
Paschal stems from ‘Pascha’, the Greek and Latin word for Passover, a week-long festival which began at sundown on 12 April and commemorates the emancipation of Jewish people from slavery in ancient Egypt.
So these Paschal Resurrection Rites we’re working with this weekend are woven with the energies of liberation.
The energies of the Rose Full Moon in Libra, which occurred on 13 April, are amplifying this sense of freedom, with the word ‘Libra’, meaning ‘pair of scales, balance’ sharing the same etymological root as the word ‘liberate’ from ‘liberare’, meaning ‘to free, liberate’ from ‘librare’ meaning ‘to balance, make level.’
Freedom therefore comes from balance, specifically the balance found within Divine Union, and the inner and outer Sacred Marriage.
It is Isis, as the symbol of our Anima or Feminine Principle, who descends into the Deep to resurrect her beloved Osiris, the symbol of our Animus or Masculine Principle, and restore him to full strength and sexual potency.
In so doing, they are able to perform the Sacred Marriage Rite and conceive their Divine Child Horus who will be born the following Winter Solstice, like Yeshua on Christmas Day.
Likewise, in the later Gnostic tradition, it is Magdalene who anoints the head of Yeshua before his death on Good Friday and resurrection on Easter Sunday.
She, in fact, anoints the head of his phallus and restores his potency through the Sacred Marriage to ensure his resurrection.
These energies of balance embodied in the Libra Full Moon and the Sacred Marriage are an implicit part of the Paschal Resurrection Rites.
The focus is not on the death of the Sun King Osiris or Yeshua, but on his restoration to life by his Queen Isis or Magdalene.
As a metaphor for our own Soul’s Resurrection, it is our Anima, that feminine, creative, wise, intuitive part of us, that gives our Animus, that masculine, manifesting, knowledgeable, rational part of us, the impetus to rise up as the Saviour.
The Saviour is our Hero/ine Warrior Archetype who stands in their full power and, through their own Soul’s sacrifice, brings forth their light of wisdom, or gnosis, to guide others out of the shadows into the light of their own Soul.
We are all this person. We are all Magdalene and Yeshua. They dwell within us and this is what they taught us – that wisdom is to be found within our own inner Sacred Marriage in union with Source and the Divine Light of Sophia.
